Accentuate The Positive

By Diane Schrier, Democratic Candidate for the Board of Education

Life is dynamic and constantly changing. Dynasties and Empires have fallen because they tried to maintain the status quo. History shows that the moment an entity ceases to change and grow it begins to decline and die. The New York Yankees, winners year after year, are constantly changing their personnel, bringing in “fresh blood”. Successful governments constantly refresh their ranks with new people and fresh ideas. They move forward. They “weed out” the obstacles and weak links in their composition. They look at where they were, where they are, how they got there and where they want to be. Ridgefield’s Board of Education should be just such a government organization.

As a result of the Board of Education’s current dynamic leadership, our “schools are thriving, the facilities problems have finally been addressed and . . . the curriculum is being improved. This argues for backing the incumbents.” So says the Ridgefield Press.

The last sentence goes in the face of history as we noted above. Ridgefield wants its Board of Education to change for the positive, not maintain the status quo. To “accentuate the positive, it must eliminate the negative.” In the Ridgefield Press’ first sentence we read the word “finally”. The dissenters on the Board of Education were “finally” overcome and many of the facilities problems have been addressed, but several years later than necessary. “Constructive dissent” like constructive criticism forces necessary and reasonable modifications in proposals and then the constructive dissenters change their vote. The dissenters for dissent sake do not. Such incumbents should be replaced with fresh blood with dynamic ideas.

I represent positive, dynamic ideas and will express constructive criticism where needed, particularly as we work to improve the curriculum. Vote positive. Weed out non-constructive dissent: Vote for Diane Schrier!
