2001 Candidates
Roger Garbow
A lifelong resident of Fairfield County, Roger Garbow has watched with some alarm as open space has vanished and outsize homes have sprouted in almost every vacant lot. Now he is seeking to become Ridgefield's Zoning Board of Appeals Alternate because, he says, "It's time to draw the line.
"The Planning and Zoning Commission makes the rules, but it is the ZBA that decides when and how those rules can be stretched" he says. "My first interest will be to protect the long-term well-being of this town." Roger supports the eminent-domain acquisition of the Bennett's Pond property and the recent imposition of Floor Area Ratios in new-home construction.
Roger and his wife Joanie have been Ridgefield Residents for more than six years. "As with most people, it was love at first sight with this town. That unique character needs to be protected."
Roger is the founder and president of Garbow Graphics, Inc., a Ridgefield-based marketing communications firm. A 1977 graduate of Bunnell HS in Stratford, he earned a B.S. in Graphic Design with a Minor in Industrial Design from the University of Bridgport in 1982.
Since moving to Ridgefield, Roger has been active in the community. He is Co-President of the Temple Shearith Israel Men's Club, a Ridgefield Little League Coach, a volunteer with Ridgefield ABC, a fund-raiser for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and a member of the Ridgefield DTC. He is an avid cyclist, and enjoys skiing, golf and amateur auto racing.
Roger and Joanie, a Clinical Social Worker, live with their two children on Mimosa Court.
