Mike Jones

The candidacy of Michael D. Jones for a post on the Ridgefield Board of Finance was enthusiastically endorsed by Ridgefield Democrats. They know that Mike Jones’ experience and energy uniquely qualify him to serve on the Board of Finance and there he will get things done.

Michael Jones is Vice President of R.M. Jones & Co., Inc., his family-owned business based in Farmington, CT. This is a cluster of six diverse businesses centered on environmental issues. Mr. Jones travels extensively around the world helping engineers solve complex technical and environmental issues. Mr. Jones personally has been responsible for helping many well-known electronics corporations end their use of ozone-depleting chemicals. In his ten years with the Jones Company businesses, he has grown the firm from $3 million to more than $40 million - a budget close to Ridgefield's annual spending.

Mr. Jones also spent twelve years in the big business working for twelve years at AT&T and (what is now) Verizon Corp.

In 1998-9, Mr. Jones served as a Selectman in Ridgefield. During that tumultuous term, he worked hard to get approvals to build the new Middle School and start the process to fix the elementary schools. He found funding to repair the decrepit police radio system with a modern and safer high-frequency system. He fought for the monies needed to preserve Lake Mamanasco and a number of other important environmental issues. He proved he is a man who is willing to fight for the right answers for Ridgefield.

Mike feels there are three main issues facing Ridgefield today:

As a ten-year resident of Ridgefield, Mr. Jones is very familiar with the issues and traditions of Ridgefield. He feels “the Board of Finance is the keystone to preserving Ridgefield” but in recent years the Board has been more reactive than proactive; more negative than helpful. “When Joanne Murray and I are on the Board of Finance,” he concludes, “Ridgefield will get more value for their money, a more professional manner of managing the town’s spending, and more cooperation with the other Boards and Commissions in building the Ridgefield of the future.”
