Steve Zemo

During his two prior terms as Selectman, Steve Zemo has been able to make very real contributions to Ridgefield, the town he has called home for 23 years. Steve is running for reelection to the Board of Selectman because he wants to continue that service. “We’ve made great progress during the last two years - getting a much-needed school building program started, securing the future of our most important open space - Bennett’s Pond, and in getting Town government working for the people of Ridgefield,” he says, “but there’s a lot more work to do, and I want to continue as part of the team that’s getting it done.”

Steve has built a successful career in Ridgefield real estate. He founded Stephen Zemo Real Estate Development and Management in 1978, and Ridgefield Apartments, Inc., in 1995. As a community-minded developer, he’s been recognized twice for his property beautification efforts - with the first Community Property Beautification Award presented by the Board of Selectmen in 1988, and a Ridgefield Board of Realtors Beautification Award in 1989. He is proud to have been a prime mover in creating a home for the Ridgefield Preservation Trust, by developing and maintaining a public park on Grove St. and Sunset Lane. The historic Scott House is being rebuilt on the park site and will be the home of the Preservation Trust. Steve has also served as vice-president of the Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce.

While a Selectman, Steve galvanized the town to focus on affordable housing. He initiated the Affordable Housing Study Group and worked with it as it became Ridgefield’s Affordable Housing Committee. The Committee published its landmark report and findings in June, 1999. He also initiated a town-wide effort to bring together volunteers for community service, by creating the Ridgefield Volunteer Service (RVS).

Steve’s service to Ridgefield has not been limited to the Board of Selectmen. He has also served on the Board of the Community Center, where he initiated the popular senior luncheon program. A strong supporter of the Ridgefield Playhouse, he was the first chairman of its Building Committee, and served as vice-president of the Friends of the Playhouse. Steve also chaired the Middle School site selection committee and the Permanent Skate Park relocation committee.

Steve has a BS in Finance from Boston College, and a Masters in Community Economic development from New Hampshire College.
