Joseph Heyman
Board of Selectmen

bar

Joseph Hheyman Joseph Heyman is seeking election to the Board of Selectmen because he believes that Ridgefield can do better. The actions of the Republican dominated Board of Selectmen have aided and abetted Ridgefield becoming a more economically restricted community rather than a town serving all of its citizens. The Republicans' errors of judgment, short term solutions to long range problems, and general lack of common and business sense has been exemplified by the $1.2 million lost in design fees for East Ridge, the $7.5 million lost on the Ippolitti property (due diligence in obtaining a second access to the site was never obtained), an option to buy the 600 acres of the former IBM property was never pursued, or at the very least, a right of first refusal was never sought. In addition, the GOPs failure to pursue obtaining the Notre Dame school as a partial solution to our overcrowding, while providing an area of Ridgefield with a neighborhood elementary school, and their failure to expediently revise the elderly tax abatement program, adds up to a disappointing record.

Heyman's city planning background, coupled with his experience in the private sector, would bring an enlightenment and change of direction in the governing of our Town.

Mr. Heyman was educated at Earlham College (BA) and the Columbia Graduate School of Architecture (Master's in Urban Planning). He currently pursues private entrepreneurial investments with urban planning; he is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP)

Joseph's community service in Ridgefield includes 20 years service on the Ridgefield Planning and Zoning Commission. He created and enacted the Architectural Advisory Committee which has raised the esthetic standards of all major developments. He encouraged and backed the bringing of the Boeringer development to increase the tax base, fostered the economic vitality of our Main Street business area, encouraged elderly housing at Ballard Green, worked for the elimination of strip retail development along routes 35 and 7, and urged open space preservation through cluster residential subdivisions. He is currently a member of the Ridgefield Architectural Advisory Committee. In addition, in the last two years he has been a member of the school site selection committee attempting to remedy the future expansion of these facilities.
