Jim Maloney June 5 -- In an effort to make commuting faster and easier for 5th District residents, Congressman Maloney has proposed a major plan to improve the Danbury/Norwalk line of the Metro-North rail system. The proposal includes plans for changing the line from diesel to electric power, realigning tracks to eliminate the need for transfers, and increasing the number of daily trips.

Currently, many 5th District travelers either transfer to the electric line at Norwalk, or even drive to Brewster, NY to catch the Harlem line. Maloney's plan would eliminate the need for transfers, substantially shortening the travel time for commuters. The proposal also includes plans to upgrade trains, parking lots, and stations.

"This improvement would do more than just shorten travel times and increase ridership," said Maloney. "The more we can improve the Metro-North rail system, the more we can reduce congestion on clogged roads like Route 7. The plan would benefit the 5th District in a number of ways: it's good for the environment, it's good for the economy, and, most of all, it's good for commuters in the 5th District."

Maloney is pursuing two different avenues to secure funding for the project, through Department of Transportation grants and through the congressional appropriations process. Jim is eager to move forward on this project and improve the quality of the lives of 5th District commuters.
