June 10 -- The National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC), a group made up of more than 500 organizations totaling 60,000 members nationwide, has awarded Congressman Jim Maloney a perfect rating for his performance in Congress on breast cancer-related issues.
The NBCC's ratings reflect its legislative priorities, all of which Maloney supported. These priorities include a $175 million appropriation for breast cancer research, support for the Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment Act of 1999, and extension of insurance benefits to cover clinical trials. Maloney's record on these and other breast cancer-related legislative efforts are testament to his continuing support for women's health care.
Maloney, whose sister is a breast cancer survivor, realizes the importance of this issue. "I know firsthand the impact that breast cancer has not only on patients, but on friends, family and loved ones," he said. "I will continue my work in Congress to pass effective legislation that will combat this disease, in terms of research, prevention, and treatment."
According to the NBCC, there are 2.6 million women in America living with breast cancer. The NBCC's goal is to combat and eradicate breast cancer, in conjunction with the government, the scientific community, and consumers. Jim is proud to be a part of this effort.
