Democrats caucused to nominate the Town Committee for the 2000-2002 term.

Jan. 18 -- Ridgefield Democrats caucused tonight to select the Democratic Town Committee for the two-year term beginning in March 2000. A presentation by Dave Nichols, DTC secretary, reviewed the accomplishments of the 1998-2000 Town Committee. Major highlights were the historic Democratic victory in the 1999 municipal election and the way the Rudy Marconi slate brought together Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and unaffiliated voters to support a new vision for Ridgefield's future. Also featured were Democrats' success in enhancing the civic dialogue through their award-winning website and Internet technology. The caucus unanimously accepted the 21-person slate put forward by the outgoing DTC. It includes 17 members of the current DTC:
- Cliff Appel
- Paula Bruns
- Alice Carboni
- Susan Cocco
- Jim Diamond
- Ethel Eckhaus
- Monte Frank
- Reggie Yannuzzi Hazel
- Karen Howes
- Mike Jones
- Barbara Manners
- Rudy Marconi
- Susan Mushlin
- Dave Nichols
- Bob Opotzner
- Ed Pearson
- Mark Robinson
New members selected were Dr. Nelson Gelfman and Jan August, both long-term active Ridgefield Democrats and returnees to the DTC, and Grant Perry and Roger Garbow, local businessmen who played key roles in the victorious 1999 campaign.
One of the slides presented at the Caucus showed the magnitude of the Democrats' victory in November 1999. While Democrats only account for 23.2% of the registered voters in Town, their standard-bearer, Rudy Marconi, won with a 62.8% majority, a clear sign that the Democratic slate drew thousands of Republican, Independents, and unaffiliated voters.
Long-term Democrat Steffi Jones [standing] acted as moderator, and ensured an orderly, efficient, and brief Caucus. Seated are Monte Frank, who served as Caucus Secretary, and Pat Baker, Democratic Registrar of Voters, who insured that everone's credentials were in order.
