Mar. 21 -- The Democratic Town Committee of Ridgefield tonight unanimously elected Attorney Jim Diamond as Chairman for a two year term, beginning tonight. Mr. Diamond was elected by acclamation; he succeeds Rudy Marconi, who was elected First Selectman in November.
Chairman Jim Diamond is a 5 term member of the Democratic Town Committee, and its former Vice Chairman. Now in his 8th year on the Committee, Mr. Diamond is a practicing local attorney with an impressive background as CT State Prosecutor for 6 years. Prior to his practice in Connecticut, Attorney Diamond was Assistant to former NY Attorney General Robert Abrams and Executive Director of Common Cause of New York. A skilled negotiator, recruiter and campaign manager, Mr. Diamond brings leadership experience in the legislative, judicial and political arenas to the Democratic Party in Ridgefield.
"I am honored to be elected Chair and to receive the Town Committee's unanimous vote of confidence," spoke Attorney Diamond at the meeting's conclusion. " I am looking forward to supporting the work of our Democratic First Selectman, Rudy Marconi, our Board of Selectman, other elected Democratic leaders and involved citizens as we build on the overwhelming mandate for Democratic leadership which our Party received this past November."
Former Selectman Mike Jones, who had previously expressed an interest in the chairmanship, told tonight's DTC meeting that he supported Mr. Diamond's candidacy, and urged a unanimous vote.
Also elected to the Executive Committee tonight were: Mark Robinson, Vice Chairman; Edwin Pearson, Treasurer; Regina Hazel, Corresponding Secretary; and Dave Nichols, Recording Secretary. The newly-elected Executive Committee begins its work immediately.
