Hot!  Ct. Democrats Pass Campaign Finance Reform; Special Interest Groups' Influence To Be Reduced
Ridgefield's John Frey Continues In Opposition

Apr. 5 --- The Ct. House of Representatives today passed a campaign finance reform measure which is being hailed as a historic measure to reduce the influence of special interests and get rid of corruption in state elections. As the Hartford Courant stated in an editorial, "..[in today's vote]..state legislators will show whether they really meant it when they filled the air with promises to clean up the corrupt method of financing election campaigns." Ridgefield's Rep. John Frey, following the direction of the GOP leadership, once more voted against the reform measure. As the Courant's article stated, "...supporters said the bill would cut the skyrocketing cost of campaigns, ``level the playing field'' for challengers and restore public confidence damaged by the scandal surrounding former [Republican] state Treasurer Paul J. Silvester." In a nice bit of irony, Rep. Frey's vote against reform comes just a few days before GOP reform champion Sen. John McCain, who carried Ridgefield's Republican primary while losing nationally, appears in town to support local candidates. We wonder what he'd say about Rep. Frey's vote today...
