Ridgefield Third Annual Town and Budget Meeting Set

First Selectman To Seek Citizen Input On Key Questions Facing Town

April 14 -- Ridgefield's Third Annual Town and Budget Meeting will take place Monday, May 1, at 7:00 PM, at the East Ridge Middle School Auditorium. These annual meetings, instituted in 1998, are intended to give voters an opportunity to meet with town officials and discuss the town and school budgets for the coming year. The public meeting also sets the date for the budget referendum, which by law must occur shortly after the Town and Budget Meeting.

The agenda includes:

Key town department heads and other officials will be present to answer audience questions on any aspect of town government.

First Selectman Rudy Marconi has indicated he plans to use the meeting, which has been well attended in its first two years, to seek voter input on at least three additional key issues facing Ridgefield:

Mr. Marconi noted, "The first two Town and Budget Meetings were highlighted by speeches by numerous town officials. There was little time for voter input. This year, we're going to minimize the speechmaking, and maximize the two-way dialogue."

"We'll have brief presentations on the State of the Town, the State of the Schools, and the budget," the First Selectman added. "I want to use most of the evening to hear what Ridgefielders think, especially on these three big issues - Bennett's Pond, the Ippoliti land, and school construction - which will have such an impact on the future of our town. This event is one of the best-attended public meetings we have during the year. I see it as a great opportunity to hear from the many folks who aren't always able to get out to the day-to-day government meetings and public hearings. I encourage all Ridgefielders to come out and share their opinions."
