May 6 -- Ground was broken for the Ridgefield Center for the Performing Arts today. The ceremony was held in the old Ridgefield High School auditorium, which will become Ridgefield's center stage for drama, movies, dance, and more cultural activities. First Selectman Rudy Marconi was introduced by Selectwoman and Chairman of the Board of the Center Barbara Manners (photo, left). Marconi joked that he hoped no one would discover any graffiti left by him and his classmates when they were kids at the old school. At today's gala event, Selectwoman Manners spoke to the hundred or so Ridgefielders who came to see the project kicked off, and brought their children to hear a "Culture Day" performance by children's musician John Farrell. Ms. Manners expressed gratitude to the many people who have contributed to the successful fundraising which made today's groundbreaking possible (photo, right.)
