Democratic Caucus Nominates Bruno For Full Term As Registrar

July 25 -- Ridgefield Democrats nominated Cindy Bruno as their candidate for Registrar of Voters tonight. She has been Acting Registrar since the retirement of long-term Democratic Registrar Pat Baker. Ms. Baker tonight nominated her former assistant for election to a full term. "I can't think of anyone more qualified or better prepared to serve in this important position," Pat told the 25 or so Democrats here tonight. Jim Diamond, DTC Chairman, said "Cindy Bruno has taken over the job of Registrar of Voters and has rapidly become a person the voters, candidates and Party officials can rely upon for responsive and efficient service. With the many positive changes being offered by our Secretary of the State, Susan Bysiewicz, we're sure that Cindy will play a significant role in the emerging technologies and we are thrilled to nominate her to run for her own term." Cindy Bruno was nominated unanimously.

Democrats did not nominate a candidate to contest the State Representative position currently held by Republican John Frey. Selectman Joseph Heyman, elected last Novemeber, told the caucus that he had been approached by numerous Democrats and encouraged to run for the State Rep. position. Heyman reported tonight that he would not run, saying, "I feel a strong obligation to the Ridgefielders who supported me to serve my full two-year term as Selectman." DTC Chairman Jim Diamond said, ""I would have preferred to have a candidate to run against John Frey, however, there is much at stake in this year's election and our Party will devote our resources to reelecting Congressman Jim Maloney." Diamond added, "We need Jim Maloney in Washington fighting for us. Once he is returned to Congress in November we will immediately turn our attention to next year's municipal elections."

The caucus also nominated 40 Democrats to serve as Justices of the Peace.
