| Rep Jim Maloney addresses his nominating convention in July in Waterbury |
When Congressman Maloney ran against Gary Franks in 1996, Franks agreed to only one debate. At that time, Maloney made a commitment to hold future election debates in each area of the district, so that all voters can have the opportunity to listen to candidates.
"We look forward to engaging Mark Nielsen on the issues that matter to the families across this district," said campaign spokesperson Betsy Arnold. "These debates will do two things. They will allow Congressman Maloney to discuss the real results he has achieved for our families on education, health care, and tax relief - and they will force Mark Nielsen to finally explain his extreme right-wing voting record as a state legislator in Hartford, a record that is in touch with big tobacco, HMOs, and oil companies, but out of touch with the families of this district."
Maloney also pledged to ensure that all 3rd party candidates who are on the ballot are included in the process. The Maloney campaign will continue to uphold that pledge by ensuring the inclusion of Concerned Citizens Party candidate Joseph Zdonczyk in all debates.
The following debates and forums have been confirmed. More will be announced as details are finalized:

"Unfortunately for Nielsen," concluded Arnold, "there won't be any debates near his headquarters in Watertown, or anywhere else outside of the 5th district."
