Nov. 24 -- Rudy Marconi marked the halfway point of his first term as Ridgefield's First Selectman by welcoming in the holiday season with the traditional tree lighting and visit from Santa Claus. Marconi, elected just a year ago in a historic landslide, had marked his administration as an active one from the beginning by reinstating the holiday tree lighting last year. The popular tradition had been abandoned during recent Republican administrations.

St. Mary's Children's Chorus entertained with holiday songs.

Today's ceremony, which included holiday songs from the St. Mary's Childrens Chorus, drew several hundred Ridgefielders. Many of those who turned out on the clear chilly evening were children eager for a view of, and maybe a visit with, Santa Claus, who arrived with Mrs. Claus on a Ridgefield fire engine.

A large crowd gathered on Main St. (photo, left) for the festivities. People were packed in front of the steps of Town Hall, and others spectated from the other side of Main St. Since the ceremeony was held during the peak of the evening commute, Main Street was kept open to traffic. Ridgefield's Finest did their usual outstanding job of keeping pedestrains safe and traffic moving. First Selectman Rudy Marconi (photo, right) was in his element, clearly enjoying being among so many fellow Ridgefielders, and hosting one of the events that makes us a special community.
