Democrats Invite Interested Ridgefielders To Serve

The Democratic Town Committee wants to talk to and meet Ridgefielders with an interest in making a contribution to the Town by serving on a Board, Commission or running for office in the fall of 2001.

Candidates for elected office, including all of the major posts in Ridgefield—from the Board of Selectman, Board of Education, Finance, Planning and Zoning, Police Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, among others, are encouraged to contact the Democratic Town Committee to discuss their interest.

Non-elected Town Boards and Commissions offer a variety of experience and cover diverse subjects ranging from Youth, the Elderly, Economic Development,Affordable Housing, Conservation, among many others. They are volunteer positions, typically involving one meeting per month with some follow up. These posts are an ideal way to make a contribution to the town and in an area of real interest to the volunteer. Appointments are made to these Commissions and Boards via recommendations. Any resident with an interest can contact Democratic Town Committee Chair Jim Diamond at the phone number below to find out more.

"There is no better time to run as a Democrat in Ridgefield-whether you are interested in the schools, open space, finance, economic development, traffic or any major town issue," stated Democratic Chair Diamond. "We have a strong leader in First Selectman Rudy Marconi with a demonstrated ability to get things done for the Town. We are in a period of growth, and life in our Town will continue to improve under his leadership. I encourage anyone who has ever considered a run for office to contact me to discuss this unprecedented opportunity."

The Democrats express a special interest in involving the "never before political" residents of the town in the local elections this fall. Mark Robinson, Vice Chairman of the Democratic Town Committee, stated "Many new or self-proclaimed 'nonpolitical" residents approach me daily with ideas and concerns. You are the new blood of Ridgefield. The Democratic Party wants your opinions and involvement. We have the support structure, the volunteers, the campaign assistance, materials and know-how to help you run a winning campaign. And we want people with fresh ideas and passion."

Party politics at the local level are administered by The Democratic Town Committee. Diamond stated that the Committee has two vacancies and interested Democratic residents are encouraged to contact him if they have an interest in joining the Committee.

The Democratic Town Committee leadership will meet with any interested person to discuss the options and help them get involved. They meet at Town Hall on the second Thursday of every month. Please contact Jim Diamond, Chairman, at 431-2302.
