May 10 -- Ridgefield Democrats unanimously elected Susan D. Cocco as their new Party Chairperson to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Attorney James Diamond. Jim told the Democratic Town Committee that he resigned the post to make some "major changes on behalf of his family." Under Mr. Diamond's and First Selectman Marconi's leadership, the Democrats of Ridgefield were successful in gaining town-wide support for the School Building Referendum known as the "Bundle". Jim offered provided guidance and support for the 2000 re-election campaign for Congressman Jim Maloney, establishing a local office for the Congressman's campaign. He advocated a more visible role for Ridgefield Democrats on the State level and arranged for frequent visits to Ridgefield by virtually every leading Democrat --including the Secretary of State, Attorney General, Treasurer and Comptroller.
Mr. Diamond was lauded by fellow Democrats and presented with a plaque in
honor of his accomplishments by First Selectman Rudy Marconi (photo, left). As she
stepped into her new post, Ms. Cocco noted, "Jim Diamond's skills in service
of the Party, his passionate belief in democracy and his outstanding work,
are examples to all residents of good citizenship. He may be leaving his
position with the Democrats, but he will continue to be a positive force in
our business community and in our town."
Susan D. Cocco, is a lifelong Democrat, and has spent the past four years on
the DTC as the Chairman of the Communications Committee. She was the
Gore-Lieberman 2000 local coordinator, managed Selectwoman Manners' last
campaign and is a frequent writer and strategist for Democratic Party

Ms. Cocco has lived in Ridgefield for 14 years, and currently makes her home on the South side of town with her two daughters, Francesca and Gianna Capodilupo. She is the Chairman of the Ridgefield Diversity Committee, the co-chair of the Ridgefield Martin Luther King Day Celebration and has been a Girl Scout troop leader for the past eight years. She belongs to St.Stephen's Church and works on Branchville PTA activities in the classroom and as an alternate BOE observer. Susan's professional experience encompasses 20 years of marketing and communications work with Fortune 100 companies in the pharmaceutical, finance, technology and food areas.
" I intend to build upon the strengths of First Selectman Rudy Marconi and
outgoing Chair Jim Diamond. My goals are to increase elected Democratic
leadership, volunteer leadership and electoral leadership," spoke Ms. Cocco
during her acceptance speech. "With the example set by Rudy Marconi, an
outstanding First Selectman and Democrat, and one of the top leaders in the
State, we intend to run successful campaigns for all municipal positions in
the Fall. The Democratic Party of Ridgefield is visible and vigorous. We
have talent, ideas, vision and commitment. Any Ridgefield resident who wants
