| Ridgefielders attending tonight's Marconi Challenge dinner stepped out to the sidewalk to participate in the nationwide candlelight vigil. From the right: Laura and Mark Robinson, Nelson and Mary Gelfman, Pat Baker, Ann Lundberg. |
[Left] First Selectman Rudy Marconi briefly discussed the World Trade Center tragedy and its effect on Ridgefield. He described his pride in the way townspeople have come together, as have all Americans, to support those affected by the events of Sept. 11.
[Right] Nearly 100 joined Rudy and other officials in the reception prior to dinner.
[Left] First Selectman Marconi took obvious pride in introducing his running mates for the upcoming municipal election. Here he presents incumbent Democratic Selectman Steve Zemo, who has been a big part of the team that has helped Rudy get Ridgefield on the road to addressing our major challenges.
[Right] Former Selectman Mike Jones and first-time office seeker Joanne Murray are running for the Board of Finance. They pledge to make the Board partners in the Marconi-led team which is building the schools we need, protecting our open space, and making town government ever more open and responsive to the people.
[Left] Mary Pat Devine is running for her second term on the Board of Education. She has won the respect of Ridgefielders for her dedicated service to improving education in our town.
[Right] Roger Garbow (left) is a Ridgefield businessman who is making his first run for office. He's very active in youth activities and at his synagogue; he is a candidate for Zoning Board of Appeals Alternate.
[Left] Michael Collins is running for the first time, too. He's a candidate for the Police Commission. His many years of experience in public safety, law enforcement, and fire protection will enhance the professionalism that Democrat George Kain has brought to the Commission. Michael spent the week working disaster recovery at the World Trade Center - he's Fire Safety Director for a major realty company in downtown Manhattan. His desciption of the up-close experience of working in the aftermath of the tragedy brought the horror of Sept. 11 home to us in a special way.
[Right] Diane Schrier is another community activist running for elective office for the first time. She seeks to win the 2-year remainder term on the school board. She has extensive experience in school-related community activities.
Dr. Henry Seemann won his first-ever elective office two years ago. After his service as Zoning Board of Appeals Alternate, he's decided to seek a permanent seat on the ZBA. Henry is also the responsbile for the Marconi Challenge Golf event, and the organizer of tonight's dinner. Great job, henry, thanks!
