Marconi Thanks Townspeople For "Generosity, Help, and Love" To Those In Need

Ridgefielders sing 'America' Sept. 16 -- Ridgefielders filled the High School auditorium tonight in A Service Of Prayer for those affected by the tragic events of last week. More than a dozen of the town's clergy led more than 500 Ridgefielders in readings from the bible, singing the Kaddish, silent prayer, and hymns, including versions of familiar hymns "Amazing Grace" and "O Sacred Head Now Wounded" with lyrics updated to mourn last week's victims. First Selectman Rudy Marconi joined with the Town's clergy - in his brief remarks he thanked Ridgefielders for their "generosity, help, and love" for those affected by the tragedy. A special uplifitng moment came near the end of the ceremony when the assembled joined in singing "O Beautiful For Spacious Skies" (photo, right)

[Right] An estimated 600 townspeople nearly filled the High School auditorium, and Ridgefielders came together in prayer, thanks, and hope.


First Selectman Rudy Marconi First Selectman Marconi also spoke at tonight's service. He noted that modern-day Ridgefield had survived two World Wars, the Korean and Vietnam wars, and the Gulf War. He said he knew that Ridgefielders were "resolved to protect our freedom and ...stand together as Americans." As he added thanks to townspeople for their "generosity, help, and love" for the victims of last week's tragedy, Ridgefielders quietly applauded. All in all, it was a very touching and moving evening in a very unusual week.
