Democratic Town Caucus Convenes

bar

Caucus photo The higher-than-ever turnout for the Democratic Caucus meant a wait at the door while Democratic Registrar Pat Baker checked credentials.

Caucus photoThe 100-or-so attendees in the Veterans' Park School auditorium. Fortunately, Democrats did not attempt to hold their caucus in the usual Town Hall meeting room --- the crowd would have been out into the street!

Caucus photoThere were plenty of faces familiar to DTC regulars, and some not so familiar, too.

Steffi JonesBob Opotzner(Left) The redoubtable Steffi Jones was unanimously elected as Caucus Chair. She did her usual splendid job, mixing dignity with friendliness and good order. (Right) Bob Opotzner surprised the Caucus when he removed his name for consideration for the new Democratic Town Committee, citing a respect for the existing, if unenforceable bylaw barring elected officials from serving on the DTC. Knowledgable observers say it's just a matter or time till Democrats update their rules and Bob is back on the Committee.

Balloting at CaucusCounting the ballots
(Left) The Caucus voted by written ballot; there was quite a line getting to the ballot box!
(Right) The Caucus secretary, Pat Baker, and Steffi Jones begin the laborious task of counting the ballots. 90-some ballots times a possible 21 votes each is a lot of tallying to do!
