The new Democratic Town Committee includes (photo, from left): Dr. Nelson Gelfman (P&Z Commission), Dave Nichols, Karen Howes, Ethel Eckhaus, Pat Baker, Alice Carboni, Dr. Cliff Appel, Michael Collins, DTC Chair Susan Cocco, Jeff Butchen, First Selectman Rudy Marconi, Diane Polsky, Reggie Hazel, Pam Hunter, Grant Perry, Dr. Henry Seemann (ZBA Alternate), and Roger Garbow. Not shown are Gerri Lewis, Joel Mesznick, Susan Mushlin, and Ed Pearson.
One of the first matters before the new DTC will be the upcoming gubernatorial race. All three declared candidates, John Nussbaum, Sen. George Jepsen, and Bill Curry have spoken to Ridgefield Democrats in the last 60 days. Each candidate presented his qualifications, his confidence he can defeat incumbent John Roland, and the steps he would take to turn the state around from failed Republican policies. The DTC will consider whether to endorse a candidate now, or go to the July convention in Hartford uncommitted.

Caucus attendees consisted of current DTC members and a number of other Democrats. DTC member and former Registrar of Voters Pat Baker [photo, right] served as Caucus Chair. The Caucus accepted the DTC endorsed slate without debate, and the Ridgefield Democratic Town Committee for the 2002-2004 term was elected unanimously.
Mark Robinson and Bob Opotzner, both active in Ridgefield public life and valued DTC members, cited the press of professional and community work in their decisions to retire from the Town Committee.
