Feb 7 -- The Ridgefield Democratic Town Committee has voted unanimously to endorse Bill Curry for Governor. Members decided to make their endorsement now, as campaign manager Roy Occhiogrosso explained at the Democrats' meeting tonight that Mr. Curry is poised to reach critical momentum in his effort to lock up the nomination and avoid a primary fight this fall.
First Selectman Rudy Marconi said, "Bill Curry is committed to fight the expansion of casino gaming in Connecticut. His election will help Ridgefield and our neighbors oppose the very real threat of a casino being located on the Union Carbide property in Danbury."
"If a casino were built near the northern part of our town, it would negate all of our efforts to preserve our quality of life which we have pursued through the purchase of the Friedman property (Stoneridge Estates), the McKeon farm, and Bennetts Pond."
Ridgefield Democrats were also impressed by Mr. Curry's career-long efforts to reform the Connecticut property tax system, an issue of great importance to all townspeople. Mr. Curry has pledged to make property tax reform a centerpiece of his campaign for governor, and has the credentials to show he is a credible advocate in this cause.
Susan D. Cocco, Democratic town chair, added, "Bill Curry's record of leadership in public policy, combined with his legislative experience, and record of success as state comptroller, uniquely qualify him to address what Connecticut voters want from their governor. We are interested in an administration which can govern from the perspective of what is best for the state, make the tough choices from the perspective of fiscal management and lead us. The town committee has pledged to work hard on his behalf not only in the months leading to the convention, but in the fall."
