Feb. 25 -- The Board of Education tonight selected Scotts Ridge as the name for the new middle school, now nearing completion next to the High School on North Salem Rd. Scotts Ridge is a name rooted in history - it was the name of a 19th century Ridgefield School in the same area, and the name of one of the town's 12 school districts through the 19th century. According to historian Keith Jones, who spoke at tonight's meeting, the Scott family were a prolific group of farmers who owned land throughout Ridgefield. Ironically, the first Ridgefield Scott was not a Scot, but an Irishman. The Board settled on the name after failing to get a majority for several other names.
