Mar. 28 -- Susan Cocco (photo, right) was unanimously reelected Chairman of the Ridgefield Democratic Town Committee tonight. Cocco had taken over for Jim Diamond when he resigned due to a move away from Ridgefield in 2000. She has won acclaim for her energetic leadership, and the many outreach events she has initiated to get more Ridgefielders involved with the Democratic Party. Cocco told tonight's meeting, the first for the newly-seated 2002-2003 Town Committee, "Thank you for the confidence you have expressed in me. I'm committed to continuing the increase in Democratic activities, candidates, and involvement that we've seen since the election of Rudy Marconi as First Selectman. I look forward to continuing to work with Rudy to involve every Democrat in Ridgefield in the political process."
New DTC members were seated: Michael Collins, a leading public safety expert who ran unsuccessfully for the Police Commission in 2001, and Diane Polsky, who has been a tireless volunteer in past Democratic campaigns. Dave Nichols, long-term DTC member who had served as webmaster and Recording Secretary, was elected Vice-Chair. Former DTC Corresponding Secretary Reggie Hazel was elected Recording Secretary. Treasurer Ed Pearson, an expert in party financial management, was reelected as Treasurer. Relative newcomer Pam Hunter, a professor of political science at the University of Connecticut at Stamford, was chosed Corresponding Secretary. Chairman Susan Cocco, shown with her daughter Francesca and Congressman Jim Maloney at the St. Stephen's Nutmeg Festival in 2001 (photo, left) said, "We have a great slate of DTC officers who will make a strong and energetic Executive Committee. Ridgefielders can expect a vigorous Democratic Party which will recruit top candidates for local and State offices over the coming two years. We're a growing party, and we welcome all Democrats to get involved."
