Financiers Send School Budget Back To Voters

School Board Cut Of $182K Accepted

Kitty Fischer addresses Board of Finance May 21 -- The Board of Finance tonight accepted the small cut in the school budget proposed by the Board of Education. The school board, which met last night in the face of the recent rejection by voters of their proposed budget, recommended an additional cut of $181,800, about 3 1/2% of the $50 million budget. The Board heard from about a dozen of the 100+ voters who filled Town Hall for tonight's meeting. Here (photo, right) Democratic school board member Kitty Fischer explained the meticulous detail into which the Board went in the final round of cuts, paring items as small as $2,500 from the painting budget. The revised school budget will go back to the voters in a new referendum on Tuesday, June 11.
