Jun. 21 -- Stamford's Stephanie Sanchez has announced that she will challenge Chris Shays for Connecticut's 4th Congressional District seat. The Fourth District has been considered a "safe" Republican seat, and Shays has served 16 years, succeeding long-serving Republican Stewart McKinney. Sanchez, a dynamic young (she's 35) Connecticut native, has a distinguished record in the private and public sector. She represents a real chance for Democrats to capture this critical seat in the next Congress. Just as Ridgefielders rallied around Jim Maloney to ensure his continued service, we now have a chance to help turn the tables in the heavily Republican 4th District. (Ridgefield was switched from the 5th to the 4th Congressional District in the redistricting that resulted from the 2000 Census.)
