Stephanie Sanchez Calls On Ridgefielders For Support

Stephanie Sanchez and Susan Cocco July 16 -- 4th Congressional District candidate Stephanie Sanchez visited with Ridgefield Democrats tonight, and asked for their support in her uphill battle against 16 year incumbent Chris Shays. Sanchez, who got 42% of the vote two years ago as a relative unknown, believes this is the year to retire her opponent. "I am looking forward to debating the issues with him," she said. She criticizes Shays as having been so involved in playing a national role on issues like campaign finance reform that he has neglected the needs of the District. Sanchez, who broke into politics working for Congressman Jim Maloney, is very much in the popular Congressman's mold. Ridgefield Democrats are pledged to bring the same enthusiasm and success to her campaign as they did for Jim Maloney in the last half-decade.

In her talk to Ridgefield Democrats, Stephanie Sanchez promised stronger representation of locally important issues. "I plan on pointing out that Chris Shays has had 16 years to solve the problems of this district and what do we have - Bridgeport still suffering, our highways worse, our schools struggling for adequate funding, and utility companies trying to take advantage of our citizens," she said. The 35-year old candidate continued, "It is time for a new approach in the district; as Congresswoman Sanchez, I will be able to tackle the problems with the various agencies at the local, state and federal level." Her talk, and the issues she raised, were welcomed by the Ridgefielders at tonight's meeting.
