Oct. 27 -- More than 50 Ridgefielders came out tonight for an evening of fine wines and good political conversation. The wine tasting was hosted by renowned NY Times wine critic Frank Prial, who described the background and attributes of the six fine wines provided for the tasting. The political conversation was enlivened by Congressional candidate Stephanie Sanchez, who was clearly energized by today's endorsement of her election bid by the Hartford Courant. Sanchez, in her sixth visit to Ridgefield since announcing for Congress, repeated her themes of caution in dealing with Iraq, stronger support for the economy and education, and opposition to the spread of casino gaming. Her campaign has also been noteworthy, and distinguished from that of her opponent, by her refusal to accept special interest contributions.

Tonight's event, sponsored by the Ridgefield Democratic Town Committee, was held at the Community Center. A similar event two years ago drew an equally large and enthusiastic crowd. A special feature of this year's festivities was the appearance of noted Ridgefield mezzo-soprano Caroline Chanin, who sang two delightful songs in the lovely Crystal Room of the Community Center.
