Townspeople Turn Out To Support Our Troops

Townspeople Crowd Main St Apr. 6 -- Hundreds of Ridgefielders turned out on Main Street to show their support for US troops in Iraq. Today's rally was an informal one, with no set program or speeches. About 300 townspeople of all ages gathered in front of Town Hall to show signs, wave flags, sing "God Bless America" and exhort passing motorists, "Honk if you support our troops." Most cars on Main St. did just that, and at times the cacaphony of blaring horns drowned out conversation. Later, the crowd moved down to the Community Center, where a group of uniformed American Legionnaires provided a color guard and led a prayer to the troops. While today's event was decidely non-political, a number of Democratic leaders, including DTC Chair Susan Cocco, school board member Bob Opotzner, and DTC members Mariana Corrado and Dave Nichols attended. First Selctman Rudy Marconi was unable to attend due to the wake for his mother, Lena, who passed away a few days ago.
