Marconi Honors Barbara Manners For Creating Concerts In The Park

Barbara Manner and Rudy Marconi Aug. 20 -- At tonight's final Concert In The Park, First Selectman Rudy Marconi spoke for all Ridgefielders when he told fellow Democratic Selectman Barbara Manners, "You have been an inspiration to our community. Thanks to you, this concert series has joined the many other events you've been involved in promoting to enrich the life of our Town." The First Selectman surprised his colleague by presenting her with a lavish floral arrangement just as she was introducing tonight's feature act, The Waifs. Ms. Manners was totally surprised, but obviously moved by the praise and by the loud applause of the large crowd on Townspeople in attendance. "This has been a labor of love," Selectwoman Manners said, "the fact that Ridgefielders and our neighbors have found this to be a fun and entertaining way to spend Tuesday evenings gives me great satisfaction. Thank you, Rudy, and thank you, Ridgefield!" The large crowd, which covered the lawn in Ballard Park, then settled back to enjoy an evening of fine music from the popular Waifs. The Waifs, a folk-rock group, has enjoyed a surge in popularity as they have recently been the opening act for Bob Dylan's concert series.
