Oct. 15 --Rudy Marconi (photo, left) described the enormous progress made toward furthering the cause of open space during his administration at a debate tonight. The debate, sponsored by the Ridgefield Open Space Association (ROSA), featured Rudy and his Republican opponent each answering five predetermined questions, then answering questions from the audience. ROSA member Robert Kleinberg (photo, right) moderated the session. About fifty people attended the session, held at the Ridgefield Library. As one of the audience questioners noted, it was Rudy's opponent who, two years ago, as a Board of Finance member, voted to thwart the will of the voters in rejecting a call (made in a widely-signed petition) to take the Bennetts Pond question to referendum. On the other hand, Mr. Marconi, upon taking office, worked diligently with ROSA, P&Z, and numerous other Town groups and boards in a successful campaing to acquire the large northern portion of the Bennetts Pond property and reserve it for open space in perpetuity.
