Ridgefield Democrats Select New Town Committee

Jan. 12 -- The Ridgefield Democratic Town Committee held its caucus, open to all registered Democrats, tonight. It was an evening of unity and party-building for the Democrats, who successfully re-elected Rudy Marconi First Selectman, with over 65% of votes cast in the recent November election, maintained control of the Board of Selectmen with the re-election of Barbara Manners and Steve Zemo, added seats on the ZBA, and Board of Assessment appeals, and elected outstanding Democrats to the Board of Finance and the Board of Education. The caucus brought out key constituents, Presidential campaign organizers, local residents and activists to select the leadership team for the Democratic Party in 2004-2006, (below).

The 2004-2006 team will begin work immediately on several key initiatives including Ridgefield’s upcoming discussions on local budgets and priorities, the 2004 Presidential election, the 2004 State Senate and State Representative races and the newly-announced candidacy for Congress from the 4th Congressional District of Westport First Selectman, Diane Farrell.

“The 2004-2006 term includes critical State, local and Federal elections,” noted Party Chair Susan D. Cocco, at the caucus. “Voters are interested in our message and ideas - we need to inform them of our ideas and their importance to the quality of life here in Ridgefield, the District and the State. We have demonstrated results here in Ridgefield under the leadership of Rudy Marconi and we will work together to bring these kind of results and thinking to the 2004 elections, the 2005 municipal elections and the lead up to the Gubernatorial elections in 2006.”

Mr. Marconi addressed the newly-elected team at the close of the caucus, noting that the Democratic Party in Ridgefield was united and strong. “We are ready with an incredibly talented team for the future," noted the First Selectman. “ I am excited about you all and I look forward to working together. There is a lot to do and we will begin to get down to business immediately.”

Democratic Registrar of voters, Cindy Bruno urged all Democrats to get out and vote on March 2, 2004 in the Democratic Presidential Primary to demonstrate the strength of the Party and the importance of the issues.

The next meeting of the Democratic Town Committee is February 13, 2004, at 8PM at Town Hall.
