Hundreds Turn Out For Casino Forum

Blumenthal Praises Marconi's "Leadership and Foresight"

Atty. Gen. Blumenthal addresses crowd Audience at Casino forum
Feb. 11 -- Several hundered people filled the Ridgefield Playhouse tonight (photo, right) to get the latest news about the possibility of a casino in the local area. Fueled by the recent Federal government approval of the Schaghticoke tribe's petition for recognition, local concern is high that the newly-recognized tribe may attempt to build a casino in the Danbury area. At tonight's meeting, state and local officials explained what residents could do to weigh in against the potential casino. Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal (photo, left), a featured speaker, praised the efforts of Ridgefield First Selectman Rudy Marconi. "Rudy has for some time demonstrated leadership and foresight on this issue before it reached the current stage," said The Attorney General. He described Marconi's efforts over the past year to galvanize local residents, as well as local, state, and federal officials to stop the casino. Tonight's forum, organized by Ridgefield's anti-casino group, Citizens Against Casino Expansion, brought elected officials and Indian gaming expert Jeff Benedict, to the Playhouse to update Ridgefielders and their neighbors about developments in the move toward a casino, and describe ways they can lobby their representatives to oppose the potential casino project.
