Mar. 11 -- The Ridgefield DTC elected its Executive Committtee for the 2004-2006 term, returning to office some of the key drivers of the Party’s success as well as adding some new faces. At their meeting of March 11th, the DTC re-elected Susan D. Cocco Chairman, for her second term and re-elected Dave Nichols to the Executive board, who will take the position of Corresponding Secretary for 2004-2006. New members will be Vice Chairman Mark Robinson, Treasurer and Finance Director, Robert Opotzner (who recently stepped off the Ridgefield Board of Education after serving since 1995) and Recording Secretary, Regina Hazel.
Upon their election, Chairman Susan D. Cocco stated, “This team represents a powerhouse of talent for Ridgefield Democrats as well as all Unaffiliated and disenfranchised Republican voters in Ridgefield. Locally, we have re-elected the leadership team Ridgefield of First Selectman Rudy Marconi, and Selectmen Barbara Manners and Steve Zemo. They represent our town fairly and intelligently, taking the lead in areas such as education, strong fiscal management, casino expansion, traffic and open space. The voters of Ridgefield overwhelmingly elected them to office to do more for Ridgefield. They do that every day .
In 2004-2006, we will make the case to the voters of Ridgefield that the current administrations in Washington and Hartford must go-along with the representatives at the State and the Federal levels who support them and their policies. The Bush administration has squandered our surplus, turning it into unprecedented debt, deceived us about wmds and the real reason we are in Iraq, left us vulnerable and alone in the world, lost millions of jobs and failed to address the real concerns of the American public. We will not stand for that in November. George Bush and Chris Shays need to hear our voice and that of others in this district. They need to be sent back to where they came from so that the real business of the nation can move forward.
On the State level, the policies of the Rowland administration and those who support him as State Representatives and State Senators have failed. Connecticut is behind other states in jobs, transportation alternatives, and growth initiatives. We are suffering not only from lack of thinking, but lack of morals. With every gift, custom renovation, and conveniently positioned “friend of Rowland” we see that the State of Connecticut has descended into a moral and political quagmire. It is time to put the Administration of John Rowland and his associates away. It is time to elect new leaders in the House and the Senate, then a new Governor and Lt. Governor.
We are looking for people to help. The Ridgefield Democratic Party is building a broad team across party lines and interests. There is much to be done locally and on the upcoming national elections. We need to hear from the voters on their issues and their interests. We are looking for you to become involved.
