Prominent Ridgefield Democrat Mark Robinson Launches Innovative New Firm

Heritage Apparel Open For Business on the Web

Mark RobinsonJust three months after leaving his post as Managing Director of advertising agency, Spike/DDB, and just one month before the launch of their first products, Mark Robinson announced the formation of his new company, MSSR Corporation. Mark Robinson's long-standing vision to build a business which celebrates the heroes and accomplishments of African American history led him to create MSSR Corporation and its Heritage Apparel and Heritage mint divisions.

MSSR also represents a return for Robinson, 41, to his entrepreneurial roots. In the mid-70's, while still attending college, Mark was owner/manager of Roscoe's Discotheque, a highly successful venture catering to both the student and area resident population. Before graduating college, Mr. Robinson sold the business for a handsome profit.

Through its Heritage Apparel and Heritage Mint divisions, MSSR is in the business of developing unique, high value, high quality products targeted to selected niche markets, specifically, key segments of the African American consumer market. Importantly, however, the company's products are developed to also maximize their potential appeal to the broader general market consumer. Mr. Robinson explains:

"A few years ago` Pleasant Company introduced 'Addy' as a new doll in their American Girls Collection. 'Addy' is a little black doll that helps little girls to learn about an important part in our history. `Addy' has been a phenomenal success for Pleasant Company because the doll and the concept appeal to everyone. Hopefully, our products will achieve that kind of broad acceptance. "

For both Robinson and for MSSR, the fundamental mission of the company is to create a business that can both do well and do good. MSSR intends to be a successful business enterprise, but equally it seeks to be a business that accomplishes something worthwhile. The company hopes to raise awareness and appreciation of African American history and heritage among all Americans through the marketing of desirable, meaningful high quality products.

Mark is active in Ridgefield civic affairs. He currently serves as Chairman of Ridgefielders Organized for Understanding of Diversity (ROUND). He is also a member of the Board of Directors of A Better Chance of Ridgefield (ABC), a recently reelected member of the Democratic Town Committee, and a Justice of the Peace.
