Sept. 20 -- The future Ridgefield Playhouse opened its doors to area residents today. The auditorium in the old high school on East Ridge is to be made into The Playhouse, which will be "a living arts center in the heart of town," and a venue for "movies, concerts, dance, theater, and other community events," in the words of the Friends of the Ridgefield Performing Arts Center, which organized today's event. The Friends have created an attractive logo for the Playhouse, which was on display today (photo, left). The backstage grafitti (photo, right) shows how long it's been since the auditorium was home to live performances.
Here's a good look at the interior of the auditorium, seen from the back of the balcony. It's hard to tell from the photo, but the place has become very shabby looking in the years of disuse.

The hard-backed wooden seats are dusty and shabby with age.
