Ridgefield Democrats Endorse School Budget Referendum

Ridgefield, CT—The Democratic Party of Ridgefield has endorsed a YES vote on the town referendum slated for November 21, 1998, on the middle school building project. The vote dramatizes that Democrats in Ridgefield believe that foot dragging on the new middle school has gone on for too long, to the detriment of school children.

At a full house meeting on October 19th, the Democratic Town Committee overwhelmingly voted YES to actively work to pass the referendum on November 21st. Spoken by Rudy Marconi, Town Chairman, the sentiment is unmistakable: "It is time to put the negative politics, and the delays of the past behind us and work together to make our schools the best in Connecticut—if not the country."

Continues Marconi, "The Democrats in Ridgefield have worked for years to find educationally and fiscally sound solutions to the expansion of our school population. We have worked hard to address the overcrowding and deterioration of our school buildings. We worked on the site selection committees, studied the options, worked to help pass the referendum to buy the (Ippoliti) property. Our educational leaders—Mary Pat Devine, Kitty Fischer, Bob Opotzner, Mary Miller—have given thousands of hours, walked acres of land and have spent night and day meeting with the residents of Ridgefield to bring this school to reality."

"We want the entire town to understand that The Democrats of Ridgefield are behind the 5/6 middle school unequivocally—and that you will not hear any "waffling" or second guessing from us now that the nay sayers are out in force. We stand committed today to educational excellence and responsible planning and spending. It is to the benefit of all Ridgefielders to vote YES on the $610,000."

The Democratic Town Committee of Ridgefield maintains an in-depth archive of information about the Ippoliti site, the referendum issues and the history of effort on building this school on its Web site, www.ridgefielddems.org. Voters who want to know the issues, the history, the hype and the reality can take advantage of this resource and view photos taken on the "walk" held in September. It is a unique resource available to all on the Internet.

In conclusion, Marconi has one message for Ridgefield voters: " I urge all voters to go to the polls on November 21sth—Veteran's Park, Yanity Gym and the High School—and make YES their choice—we need this school and we need it now!"
