Feb. 5 --
In the newly refurbished Community
Center tonight, the Ridgefield Graveyard Restoration Commission
enjoyed their eighth annual dinner, celebrating another year of hard work
under the hot sun for little thanks. The theme of the party was honoring
the earliest heroes of Ridgefield, most of whom are interred in our
beautiful town. The party was well attended, with about twenty members of
the Commision, another dozen spouses and the few Selectmen who have not
yet come down with the flu. A lively bunch, the party sizzled with great
food and wonderful camaraderie. [Photo: Joe and Joan Boggs, Jeanne

This Commission, appointed by the Selectmen, works hard to protect and preserve Ridgefield's heritage. From documenting the town's early history, restoring lost headstones from photos taken fifty years ago, tracing genealogical trees, or simply keeping the weeds down and the tombstones up, they work hard and well, keeping our sense of history alive and well.
The entire commission posed on the elegant steps of the newly refurbished
Community Center. Members are (front row, l-r) Grace and Doug Clewell,
Chairman; (second row) Bob Tulipanni, Jeanne Timpanelli, Mary-Ellen
Flaherty-Kramm, Dorothy Wright; (third row) Joan Boggs, Richard Klahn,
Susan Allen; (fourth row) Helen Hopkins, Shirlee Peknik, Beth Yanity;
(fifth row) Fred Layda, Barbara Safford, and Mary Sullivan.
The Selectmen are also ready for a good party, and three of them were
glad to have made it to this fest. Here, Selectmen Mike Jones chats with
Jeanne Timpanelli, Susan Allen and Richard Klahn.
Meanwhile, Barbara Manners and Dr. Peter Yanity enjoy a light moment.
Always smiling, Bob Tulipanni chats with Ken Wright and Dorothy Wright
about the plans for this summer's work.
Helen Hopkins, stylish in black and silver, gave Mike Jones a hug by the
elegantly re-appointed stairs at the Community Center.
For details about how you can help the work of the Graveyard Restoration Commission, call Doug Clewell or any of the members of the Commission, or the First Selectmen's office 431-2774.
