Feb. 18 -- GOP First Selectman Abe Morelli was forced today to disclose his secret plan for a bypass road to run through the Quail Ridge area of Ridgefield. It appears that Morelli had revived an idea from a 1950's-era Town Master Plan, and had a team of town employees and outside consultants secretly working on it for the last year. The First Selectman was apprently partially motivated by a request from the Schlumberger company to keep the plan under wraps until they had briefed their employees on it. The proposed bypass would apparently benefit Schlumberger by enabling development of land adjacent to their current building and by improving the commute for some of their employees.
Mr. Morelli's hand was forced by a Freedom of Information request by a resident of Ivy Hill Rd. Residents of the affected areas, including Ivy Hill, Quail Ridge, and Prospect Ridge are very concerned about the plan for a new road, with its unknown volume of traffic to be lured off congested Main Street and Rte. 7, and zipping through their quiet residential neighborhood.
Here, we bring you exclusively the secret plan for the new bypass road. This plan is now available for public inspection in Town Hall. There is a handout Town officials will give you, but it's a schematic layout only, and does not show this level of detail. (Interestingly, the schematic is signed by the Town Engineer and dated Oct. 9, 1998, so it's clear this plan has been around for a while.)
