On a recent rainy Sunday afternoon, several Ridgefield Democrats took a walk through the Bennett's Pond property. The site was recently purchased by a large real estate developer who has submitted plans to build a golf course, hotel, corporate offcies, and a residential commuinity on the site. Many townspeople, led by the newly formed Ridgefield Open Space Association (ROSA), have protested that the property is a unique open space resource which should be preserved for generations of Ridgefielders to come. Democratic Selectman Mike Jones led the group, with ROSA member Pete Stewart acting as guide.
Ridgefield Selectman Mike Jones is very impressed by the industry of the beaver who felled this good-size tree on the edge of Bennett's Pond.

"No Trespassing" signs dot the property, a reminder of the 20-plus years during which IBM owned the property.

This vernal pool is located about 750 feet above sea level on the northern slope above the Bennett's Pond. A vernal pool is a unique and important resource which provides habitat to amphibians in the spring. The pool dries up in the summer, insuring it will not be home to fish life which would kill off the amphibians.
