Exclusive! School Board To RHS Smoke Bomber: You're Outta Here!
First "Bomber" Expelled For One Year - No Educational Alternative

Apr. 29 -- The Ridgefield Board of Education tonight voted to expel the first of three high school seniors who set off smoke bombs in the high school last week. The Board, in an unusually harsh punishment, expelled the student for a full year, with no alternative education offered. Three Ridgefield seniors were apprehended for the dangerous, and possibly criminal acts, just a day before the tragic violence in Littleton, Colorado. [Ed. note: www.ridgefielddems.org has elected not to publish the names of the charged students, even though the names have been made public by the Ridgefield Police.]

After a marathon 9-hour session, the Board finally came out of executive session at approximately 2:30 am and voted the explusion. This was the first of three disciplinary proceedings the Board will conduct over the coming week. While school board sources were unwilling to discuss the deliberations which took place during the closed session, there were obviously significant issues which occupied the panel during the lengthy meeting.
