Democrats Say High School Site Is A Smart Choice

Bob

Ridgefield Democrats have been out stumping to garner community support for the new school. Here, Democratic school board member Bob Opotzner (center) and Selectman Mike Jones (right) show their enthusiasm for the school with a Ridgefield Dad and his two daughters. Bob, Mike, and other Democrats spoke with parents outside the Little League Pancacke Breakfast at East Ridge on Saturday.

Expressing its strong support for the continued improvement of Ridgefield public schools, the Democratic Town Committee of Ridgefield has taken a formal position in support of the decision to build the new middle school adjacent to Ridgefield High School.

The Democratic Town Committee has followed closely the work of the Site Selection Committee, as well as the deliberations of the Board of Education and the Board of Selectmen, in an effort to communicate clear and useful information to Ridgefield voters.

Additionally, a special joint task force was formed including Kitty Fisher, Mary Pat Devine and Bob Opotzner from the Board of Education and Barbara Manners and Mike Jones from the Board of Selectmen. The task force examined each of the issues connected to the high school site to determine reasonable, practical solutions to any question or concern that might arise.

"It's inevitable that there will be questions about the site. That would be true of any site," said Democratic Chairman Rudy Marconi. "We felt it was important to be pro-active, to provide answers to people's questions, and to reassure the community that this site is a smart choice."
