Water Company Cites "Excessive" Water Use
The Town and Bridgeport Hydraulic Co., the town's water supplier, have continued the state of water emergency, following continued high heat and lack of rain.
The prohibitions are:
- No watering of lawns and gardens;
- No washing of cars or other vehicles, unless at a facility equipped with equipment to recycle the washing water;
- No flushing or washing of streets and sidewalks; and
- No filling or re-filling of swimming pools.

Lawns in Ridgefield are parched, and grass is yellowing as two successive summer heat waves combine with a lack of rain.

In a July 14 letter to customers, the town's water supplier, BHC, noted that "...[following] our call for voluntary outdoor water conservation.... residents promptly responded to our appeals... [but] the amount of water being used has again crept to excessive levels." BHC also asks customers to voluntarily conserve indoor water use by "repairing leaks in... homes and turning off faucets while shaving or brushing teeth."
