Two months after Ridgefield's Board of Selectman first called for townspeople to reduce their consumption, water use in the town is markedly lower. Usage data (graph, right) shows daily demand down from more than 1.2 MGD to approximately 0.8 MGD since mid-June. Water restrictions were first enacted by the Selectman on June 29; consumption actually increased in the days following this initial move. Repeated calls for conservation, including an appeal to consumers sent by the town's water company, Bridgeport Hydraulic, on July 14, evidently did have an effect, as the consunption trend has declined steadily from mid-July.
