Sept. 2 -- At tonight's Independent Party caucus at Town Hall,
chairman Dom D'Addario announced that the party was giving its formal
endorsement to Rudy Marconi, Democratic candidate for First Selectman.
D'Addario stated that the Independent Party was disillusioned by Republican
actions over the last two years in general and with Mr. Morelli in
particular.
Mr. D'Addario called candidate Marconi at his home tonight at the conclusion of the caucus to share the news with him and to wish him good luck in his campaign. Marconi thanked him for the call and thanked him for the endorsement and vote of confidence.
Marconi was pleased but not surprised by the Independent Party's actions. "I've been spending a great deal of time talking to people all over Ridgefield. Again and again people say that they're disappointed in the lack of leadership and fed up with the way that important decisions are badly mismanaged. The Independent Party joins the voices of so many other Ridgefielders – Democrats and Republicans – saying that it's time for a change."
Two years ago, many observers considered the race for First Selectman a parity choice, with the two candidates identically qualified. This time, however, these same observers apparently feel that Abe Morelli's performance on the job speaks for itself and the differences between the two candidates are sharply drawn.
