Ridgefield First Selectman Candidate Marconi Endorsed By Eriquez, Blumenthal

Mayor Eriquez, Rudy Marconi, and AG Blumenthal Oct. 10, Ridgefield, CT. -- Danbury Mayor Gene Eriquez [photo, left] and Connecticut Attorney General Dick Blumenthal [right] endorsed Democratic First Selectman candidate Rudy Marconi [center] at a gala fundraiser today. The State's Attorney General and the Mayor of Ridgefield's neighbor to the north have now joined the Ridgefield Democratic Town Committee; the Independent Party of Ridgefield, Connecticut's Fifth District congressman Jim Maloney and former New York Mayor Ed Koch in endorsing Mr. Marconi as Ridgefield's First Selectman candidate.

Attorney General Blumenthal enthusiastically endorsed Rudy, praising his "unique experience and expertise," and offering his view that "Ridgefield has one of the strongest sets of Democratic candidates in the state." AG Blumenthal, who has earned a national reputation for aggressively protecting the rights of Connecticut taxpayers, joked that he was afraid of straying across the state line into New York ---- "I think they have people lined up over there to nab me." Blumenthal has gone to Federal court to challenge New York's right to provide tax preferences to New York residents but not to Connecticut workers who commute to jobs in New York.

Gene Eriquez, Barbara Manners, Mark RobinsonThe popular Gene Eriquez [photo, left, with Barbara Manners and Mark Robinson], Mayor of Danbury, talked about the importance of having top-flight leaders in the towns which make up "greater Danbury." Noting that "the great attributes of Ridgefield make Danbury a stronger place," he praised Rudy's leadership on educational, economic, and environmental issues. "Ridgefield deserves better than it's had in the last couple of years" in the way of leadership, Eriquez said. In the "it's a small world" department, one of the long-term Ridgefielders attending the gala noted that both Eriquez' and Marconi's mothers are named Lena, and that they had actually played together as children in the local area years ago.
