The Ridgefield Press endorsement offered ringing support for Rudy Marconi and disappointment with the ambling, directionless style of the Republican encumbent. Noting the town has yet to even break ground for the Middle School, owns the Ippoliti property which voters rejected, and is facing fiscal issues caused by multiple school building projects, town enhancements and development pressures, their endorsement stated that "Rudy Marconi has more of what the Town needs."
The all-important endorsement of the Ridgefield Press comes to Mr. Marconi on the heels of this week's win in the RHS debates. Mr. Marconi also has the endorsements of Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, Secretary of State Susan Bieczewicz, Danbury Mayour Gene Eriquez, Congressman James Maloney and former New York City Mayor, turned Newsday columnist, Edward Koch.
"I am pleased to receive the endorsment of the Ridgefield Press," said Mr.
Marconi, to a group of well-wishers assembled at Democratic Headquarters.
"Like many of you, I am concerned by the lack of action and planning which is
affecting our town. The Ridgefield Press spent hours reviewing my ideas and
strategies for open space, the schools, my conveyance tax idea, senior tax
credits and other critical issues for Ridgefield. Their endorsment indicates
trust and faith that I and my team can not only get the job done for
Ridgefield, but also exceed current expectations and make Ridgefield a better
town." [Photo: Rudy works with volunteers at Headquarters to prepare a campaign mailing. Visible are Amanda Marconi, Rud'ys daughter (standing) and Sandy Kalreiss (seated)]
Mr. Marconi concluded by stating that there are still many people to meet and speak with in the next few days before the election--a task which he relishes.
