Nov.2 -- In a landslide of historic proportion, Ridgefielders today turned to Rudy Marconi and his Democratic ticket to lead them for the next two years. A stunning 63% of voters chose Marconi over incumbent Abe Morelli, and the three Democratic candidates for selectman each outdrew the two Republicans. Veteran observers, including Barbara Ireland and former First Selectman Lou Fossi, believe that Rudy's 63% of the popular vote is the highest by a Democrat in Ridgefield's modern history. The landslide vote for Rudy, which included overwhelming support from Republicans and Unaffiliateds, as well as the Democrats and Independents who endorsed him, confirmed that the town is thirsty for the new leadership he has promised. [Photo, left:] Defeated First Selectman Abe Morelli traveled to Marconi Headquarters Tuesday evening to concede and offer his congratulations to Rudy. Mr. Morelli's graciousness, evidenced Election evening, was short-lived, however, as he was being quoted in the local media the next day exhorting his remaining suppporters to "hold [the Democrats] feet to the fire" over the coming months.
