Board of Selectmen To Convene With Mr. Marconi In The Chair

The Ridgefield Board of Selectmen will meet this coming Thursday, Nov. 17, with newly-elected First Selectman Rudy Marconi as Chairman. Rudy was elected in a 63% landslide on Nov. 2, was sworn in on Nov. 8, and will officially take office on Nov. 16. Thursday's regularly scheduled Board meeting will be his first since he served as a Democratic Selectman a few years ago.

In another return performance, Steve Zemo joins the Board as a Republican. He was elected with a smaller vote than any of his Democratic challengers; however, he, along with fellow Republican Peter Yanity, who also "lost" in the popular voting, will be seated due to Connecticut's minority representation law, which guarantees the less-popular party two seats. Mr. Zemo has served on the Board before, but as a Democrat. His recent flip-flop to the GOP was no doubt designed to align him with the majority Republicans. In politics, however, timing is everything, and Steve's appears to have been amiss. He will now be a minority member of the Board, with Rudy Marconi, Barbara Manners, and the winner of the Jones-Heyman runoff election constituting the Democratic majority.

In this week's meeting, the Board will consist of only four selectmen - Rudy Marconi, Barbara Manners, Peter Yanity, and Steve Zemo. The fifth seat will go to the winner of the runoff election between Democrats Mike Jones and Joseph Heyman, scheduled for Nov. 23. Only three Selectmen are needed at any meeting to constitute a quorum. Thursday's meeting will take place at 8:00 PM at Town Hall, in the Lower Conference Room.
