The following statement was released by Bob Opotzner and published in The Ridgefield Press on October 16, 1997:

Top Ten Reasons to vote for Bob Opotzner for the Board of Education:

10. I am an active and receptive listener.

9. I previously served for nine years on the Shelton Board of Education.

8. During my two months of service on the Ridgefield school board, I have had an opportunity to become well-versed on the many issues currently facing our school system.

7. I have experience in selecting school superintendents and in keeping them since I served on two school boards which hired superintendents and kept them!

6. I believe that it is important to hear all relevant facts before making decisions.

5. I believe that board members must treat each other respectfully, especially when they disagree.

4. I am not a one issue candidate.

3. I am skilled at consensus building.

2. I have already received accolades for my style and impact on the Ridgefield school board during the two months that I have served on it.

1. I will provide strong leadership in developing a school board which will deal with the hard issues in a fair and professional manner.

My performance as a former member of Shelton's school board and a member of Ridgefield's school board since my election two months ago indicate that I possess the qualifications to be a valuable member of the Board of Education. I will work hard to represent the residents of Ridgefield by continuing to balance the needs of education with the requirements of fiscal responsibility.
